Why You Should Consider A Career in Oil & Gas This Year

Everyone in America is aware of the tax reform the GOP-lead congress passed late last month. What you might not know is the extent this will benefit the gas and oil industry. Historically, energy companies have had a higher tax burden, which means they will likely experience a greater benefit from this tax bill than other industries.
The exact effect the oil and gas industry will experience over the next several years is not exactly cut and dry, but we do know it will be a catalyst for the betterment of hardworking individuals in our industry.
.
Here is a list of the top reasons you should consider joining the oil and gas industry in 2018:
.

There’s a lot of work to do

The gas and oil industry is the primary source of energy for most countries and production is expected to double over the next two decades. Dr. Tunstall’s economic impact report about the Eagle Ford Shale explains, “The U.S. will be a reliable, stable supplier of natural gas for decades to come, which will maintain pressure on other worldwide suppliers to become more stable and efficient themselves.”

With stability comes growth, meaning our industry is poised to continue on its upward growth trajectory for quite some time. Technology is also evolving every day which adds to the stability of our industry. New technological fields are constantly emerging for scholars and experienced workers to delve into, which in turn means people with those specific degrees and skills will be in high demand.

Flexibility

Most people don’t stay in the same profession their entire working lives. In fact, research shows us that most people remain in the same field for only about five years. It is a good idea for people to choose jobs in the energy sector since there are a great number of skill sets that are utilized by various companies. That is, many skills that are used in the industry are transferable from one job to another. In other words, you can go from one job to a job that is completely different but still remain in the same industry without having to sacrifice time, money and energy learning new skills and disciplines.

Great Pay

This is pretty important for most people. Money might not be everything, but if you are paid well, chances are you will be more satisfied with what you do for a living. People in the oil and gas industry know that there is great opportunity to garner substantial wealth with any of the available positions out there. Our member companies are a great example of this and I encourage our readers to inquire with any of our members if you’re looking for a long-term career.

Travel Opportunities

If you love to travel, then a career in the oil and gas industry is a great idea! There are many companies in the industry that offer a range of travel perks. As a matter of fact, employees of these companies might be required to travel for business meetings, training and work projects. Some people see the oil and gas industry as workers in an oilfield, but in reality there are a plethora of office jobs and executive level positions that you can work up towards.

Professional Growth

As we alluded to in the previous section, if you desire to climb the corporate ladder, you can do so easily in the oil and gas industry. There are many professionals in the industry that are interested in training the right people to move up. So if promotions and raises sound good to you, the oil and gas industry is the perfect choice.

Fresh Out of College? You’re Hired!

It can be frustrating trying to find a great job when you are young. You might have the education, but lack experience for many positions. This might come as a surprise, but many companies in the industry want young workers and go to college campuses seeking qualified students for great positions.
